The Bailey House Annual Report was a pro-bono project undertaken by Design Centre. Bailey House cares for intellectually disabled adults and this project provided Design Centre with a challenging opportunity to develop a concept that reflected the vibrant yet caring nature of the environment.
Bollards Vic Urban
Bollards Vic Urban | INDUSTRIAL DESIGN
The brief was to refine and detail two bollard concepts approved by the client VicUrban, following initial design concepts developed by Design Centre in 2005. This involved close contact with the client, suppliers and manufacturers to oversee all the final details of the bollards into production.
In detailing each of the two bollards we compiled technical drawings and specifications, parts list, installation guides and complete costings. To guarantee a high quality product, rapid prototypes were created to refine finer details. Throughout the process we liaised with pattern makers, tool makers and rotational moulders to ensure a high quality outcome. Mock ups and rapid prototypes were created to ensure that the refined designs fulfilled the demands of the original brief.
Kana Chan Mobile Phone Game
Kana Chan Mobile Phone Game | MULTIMEDIA DESIGN
Kana Chan was a mobile phone game produced for Thomson Learning by Swinburne University Design Centre. Kana Chan was aimed at Years 7 & 8 school children to teach them basic Japanese by hunting for specific Kana that makes up words. The game was design and developed by Swinburne University Design Centre using Flash Lite 2. The Kana Chan game is now being distributed with Thomson Learning Japanese textbooks. Swinburne University Design Centre is working with Thomson Learning to create new language games for the mobile phone platform.
FINA Mascot
FINA World Swimming Championships Mascot | COMMUNICATION DESIGN
The brief required the Design Centre to create a mascot for the FINA world swimming championships to be held in Melbourne in early 2007. Design Centre researched and presented a range of recommended character designs to FutureBrand. From this a design direction was selected and developed across a range of merchandising for the event.
CRC Exhibition Stand

The Design Centre at Swinburne University, designed and constructed this exhibition stand for the client, CRC Wood Innovations, to inform and display their research and development of wood technologies.
The project was completed within a 3 week period from the concept stage to completed production and installation at the Furnitex exhibition 2006.
The project required a focused design process, close liaison with the client and timely collaboration with suppliers and manufacturers. Within the short timeframe, we were able to reach the clients expectations and developed our skills working with manufacturers and within the workshop. It was essential to the project that efficiency and professionalism were practiced, providing an accelerated and unique learning experience.
“Tales from the High Rise”
Digital Storytelling Project | MULTIMEDIA DESIGN
The Inner South Community Health Old Persons Support Team and Swinburne University Design Centre launched a Digital Storytelling Project in 2006. This pilot project called “Tales from the High Rise” was a collaboration between Inner South and the Design Centre which was aimed at encouraging residents from public housing to share thier stories with a wider audience, to promote self worth amongst the participants and to foster a wider awareness of people in public housing. The project was launched to a packed house at the Design Gallery in Prahran.
Gertrude Street Annual Report

The Gertrude Street Annual Report is a project that has been undertaken by the Design Centre for a number of years. The gallery provides studio and exhibition spaces for a variety of contemporary artists. The Annual Report forms a significant marketing device and requires students to develop an innovative solution that reflects the nature of the facilities and the artists.
Chair Concepts for Pearl Furniture
Chair Concepts for Pearl Furniture | INDUSTRIAL DESIGN
Design Centre was approached by Pearl Lifestyle furniture to develop a series of concepts for a new contemporary “chill” recliner. The “chill” recliner had to be suitable for use within home entertainment areas as well as cater to the young professional market.
The concepts developed were responding to the client’s desire for a new contemporary ‘chill’ recliner specifically for home entertainment areas for the 25-40 young professional market.
Lava Web Creations Online Identity

Swinburne Univeristy Design Centre created a new online identity for Lava Web Creations. The identity included website redesign, custom Flash animations to higlight key projects on their homepage, custom Flash animations to showcase key projects and e-newsletter redesign. The new identity has been a great success and there has been a major increase in traffic and length of visits to their website.
Living Links Identity

Living Links is part of a large-scale change project currently being developed by the Port Phillip and Westernport Catchment Management Authority. The project is in its infancy and required Design Centre to produce an identity, which could be used on brochures, websites, newsletters and publications. The development of the identity required the outcomes to appeal to a range of key stakeholders from local residents and landholders to all levels of government and corporate sponsors.

An early stage project, Operations Feedback Systems required the development of a corporate identity. Design Centre presented a range of concepts within a short time frame from which a design was selected and developed. This identity was then put into production across stationery and a website developed.
Quality Pharmacy Wiseguide

Design Centre has worked closely with Quality Pharmacy to develop its retail branding. In a highly competitive commercial market, Quality Pharmacy has provided projects from traditional print based catalogues, brochures and booklets to varied selection of retail store design, signage and point-of-sale displays.

The Design Centre has had a longstanding relationship with the National School of Circus Arts. Colourful and energetic, this client has provided a diverse range of projects from flyers and posters to their quarterly newsletter.
InsulAid
InsulAid | INDUSTRIAL DESIGN
InsulAid is a point of care product that acts as a diagnostic and administrative tool in the hands of everyday sufferers of Diabetes. Users no longer have to use three separate devices, lancet, glucose monitor and needle which are based on simple designs and technology currently used by diabetics to draw and analyse blood, as well as inject insulin via the pores in the skin. Incorporating these functions with a needle-less injection system into one device, InsulAid gives the user the flexibility and advantages of an easy-to-use, convenient and painless method of diabetes management.
Lab Report 04

Lab Report 04 developed as result of collaboration between Swinburne and Lab 3000. A showcase of research outcomes developed within the Faculty of Design, the report focuses on future directions and sustainability. The report contents were further developed to formulate the basis of an exhibition and book launch by lab 3000 and the State Government.
Display Plinths
Display Plinths | INDUSTRIAL DESIGN
This project involved the creation of a system of collapsible, reusable display plinths for use in the Faculty of Design for exhibitions and events. The design team needed to work around the limitations of batch manufacture in Melbourne, involving liaison with 8 separate material suppliers. The beauty of the design lies in the creation of shapes that are perfectly regular and sublime, as well as durable and strong. Their form is unadorned and blank, a desirable canvas that highlights and lifts the objects they display.
